Dental Implants

A missing tooth takes its toll on your appearance, your ability to eat your food comfortably, and your confidence. Even if your lost tooth is not immediately noticeable, you know it’s there when you’re trying to chew the foods you usually eat, or when you smile or laugh with friends or co-workers. It is always on your mind, and it could be causing you to feel self-conscious.

Dental implants are an excellent solution for replacing one or multiple missing teeth because they restore both the root and crown of your tooth, which is the portion you see. This provides you with a brand new tooth that looks, feels, and functions like your natural tooth.

Why Is It Important to Replace a Missing Tooth?

Though a lost tooth at the back of your mouth may not seem too important to replace, this actually couldn’t be further from the truth. Every tooth has its role in how comfortably and effectively you can bite and chew your food. A missing tooth causes your remaining teeth to compensate and could make them work harder, or in ways they were not designed for chewing, resulting in cracks, fractures, or excessive wear.

A missing tooth root also affects the health of your jawbone. Without a root to keep your bone stimulated, it's not needed. It begins to dissolve, which could impact your surrounding teeth. Meanwhile, your remaining teeth may start to move and shift out of alignment, changing your bite and increasing your risk for developing other concerns like cavities or gum disease.

You also don’t want to discount the effect a missing tooth has on your appearance. Feeling self-conscious about the way you look affects how you interact with other people and can impact your self-esteem.

How Tooth Implants Restore Your Smile

Once you and Dr. Karian have determined that tooth implants in Middletown are the right solution for you, he will work closely with a trusted local oral surgeon who will place your titanium tooth implant. Titanium is biocompatible and naturally fuses with your bone over a healing period through a process called osseointegration.

Dr. Karian will be closely monitoring your healing process during this time, and as soon as your dental implant is fully integrated with your bone, he will place a porcelain crown to replace your tooth.

Tooth implants are the gold standard in tooth replacement for one missing tooth, but they are also capable of replacing multiple missing teeth by anchoring a denture, partial, or bridge.
